THE MINHO GASTRONOMY

In the land of Vinho Verde, codfish — like everywhere else — is always one of the most popular products and dishes. But papas de sarrabulho, rojões, and other delicious specialties enrich Minho cuisine and the menus of local restaurants. In Valença, codfish is eaten like nowhere else.

Codfish here is truly a divine delicacy. Caldo Verde is one of Portugal’s 7 gastronomic wonders — a genuine soup from Valença. Borrachinhos de Valença are a traditional convent sweet. And to accompany these delicious specialties, the famous Vinho Verde wine, typical and exclusive to the Minho region, is served, with the Alvarinho grape variety being the best known. In Monção and Melgaço — thanks to the climate, soil, and local expertise — the Alvarinho grape gives its best and produces excellent quality wines.
